Nestled between two peaks of the Southern Arcano Mountains, the Hidden Valley is the heart of Reyano Territory. It is here that foals are born, and here that the herd returns to frequently. The headwaters of the Castovar River, the place that the water comes from, is hidden back in this valley as well. The path into valley is rather thin, lined with sharp, rocky cliffs where the Casotvar River has worn away at the mountain. At the entrance to the Hidden Valley, the Castovar Spring is found, coming from beneath the earth. The Castovar Spring builds into the Castovar River as it runs through the valley. Although most of the Southern Arcano Mountains are rather dry and arid, this valley alone is green and full of life. Trees and tall grass form a meadow-forest patchwork in the valley, while along the river, ferns and moss grow. The Reyano Herd does not live here all the time, but they are found here frequently. Rabbits and deer live here, and brown bears and wolves will wander into the valley on occasion as well. Patrolled vigorously by the Reyano Herd, this land has been claimed as part of their homeland, and trespassers will not be tolerated. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This territory is part of the Reyano Herd homeland, and trespassers will not be tolerated.
* Dangers: Wolves, bears, drowning* When it comes to meeting a predator, the player can chose the outcome. Please keep in mind that lone horses will be vulnerable to predators, while groups will have a better chance of escaping unharmed. When a predator targets a harem of horses, they will seek to separate the weak and young. If your horse is young, old, or injured, be aware they will be likely to be targeted unless defended. Please keep all interactions with predators realistic. No horse can escape every encounter unharmed.

"Fate loves the fearless…" |
As the sky entered into the dove-gray moments before dawn, Descaro awoke. It was early, and the herd was likely still sleeping, exhausted from the three-day tour of the kingdom that Descaro had just lead. Every new herd member had been shown around the territory, and the Lord was now confident that even the foals could find there way around the Reyano homeland if need be. Back in the heart of the herd, the Hidden Valley, Descaro planned to spend a few days resting and giving the members time to get acquainted. He also needed time to discuss ranks with Ronokoro, as he planned to announce those soon as well.
He had not placed a watch last night--the Valley was safe enough not to need one--so everyone was grouped together to sleep at the edge of the small forest. A patchwork of trees and meadows made up the green landscape here, and it was a perfect place for the herd to rest and feel safe from predators for once.
Unlocking his knees from their sleep-lock position, Descaro padded away from the group, his ears relaxed in the pre-dawn light. Stars still littered the gray sky, but a faint splash of pink was beginning to show in the east. Dew from the tall grass had drenched his legs by the time the Gypsy Vanner reached the river. He made his way onto the smooth-pebbled shore and dipped his head to drink the fresh spring water.
This valley had been Descaro's savior when he was younger. He had stumbled across it when he was a three-year-old, and it had likely saved his life. Living alone at such a young age usually meant death for a colt, but when Descaro had this valley to run back into, he was never worried about the danger as much as he should have been, perhaps. A year ago, a grizzly and her cubs had wandered into the valley looking for trout, and transformed Descaro's safe-haven into a hell which he did not dare enter. For almost a month he could not set foot into the Valley for fear of death by the grizzly's claws, and the experience had taught him much. While he still generally counted on the Valley to be safe, he was certainly more cautious than he had been as a lone stallion. And now that his herd was here, he couldn't take the chance of another danger walking through the narrow entrance to the Valley. Tomorrow night, Descaro would guard the entrance himself.
Finishing his drink, the Lord returned to his herd, standing guard as the sun rose. He had a few tests planned for this afternoon, but right now he simply wanted to herd to rest after their long journey through the Reyano kingdom.

Jesus, that stallion wanted to kill all of them. Three days of walking around, learning the routes and lay of the land, her hooves were practically killing her. She really just wanted to sleep on the ground, but she had made that mistake once before as a filly, and that one experience taught her a valuable lesson that her parents could never teach her. Her sore feet were stuck below her locked knees, still supporting the relatively light weight of Robin's painted form. She desired to keep her eyes closed, not face the day just yet, but the sun had other ideas, and it was stabbing her through the terrible filter the leaves provided. She tried shifting slightly, moving her head out of the sun's reach, but it just followed her time after time, prodding her with the perseverance of a stalking cat. Pinning her ebony ears back at the morning's light, she raised her head sharply and gave her entire body a thorough shaking. At least there was grass that was green in this part of the territory, the ghost of the dead grass at the borders still haunted her. Finally opening her eyes, the first thing she did was try to pin point the location of Lord Descaro, but he had apparently vaporized into the territory somewhere. How annoying; lead everyone on a wild goose chase through a crap-load of canyons, then leave them alone in the Valley. However, it seemed that another, much small face had replaced him at the moment. A golden mare that most horses in the herd practically dwarfed was also somewhere in the Valley, but Robin had no intention of bullying the practical pony in any way other than in her own head. She may be stubborn and rude, but she wasn't a brat. At least in her mind. Her name escaped the blotched mare, so rather than wake her up, Robin would just wait until Descaro or Ronokoro announced ranks; it was bound to happen eventually. Now that her body had warmed up to the whole idea of 'life' and 'morning,' she was hungry, and thank goodness for the aforementioned green grass, otherwise she would probably starve in the desolate land. Bringing her head the long distance back down to the ground, the tall mare began to clip the grass with her teeth, waiting for the rest of her herd members to wake up. After three days of constant wandering, Mia was hoping today would not be another day of the same. As the night started to turn, she tried to decide if she should wake up fully or try and sleep a little more. Trying to keep sleeping most likely would not be a good thing since she still didn't really belong to the herd. After the beta stallion had brought her to the lead stallion, he had decided it was time to move. Thankfully her bruised heel had been pretty temporary. Picking her head up high she stretched as high as she could, tucking her nose down as she worked on waking herself up fully. Shaking her mane a little bit she opened her eyes and looked around. Most of the others had yet to stir, it appeared only the lead stallion and the loudly marked black and white mare were fully awake from what she could see.
Not being sure of her standing or anything made things a little difficult, but she wandered farther out of the group and dropped her head low to sniff at the grass. With a sigh she picked her head back up and watched the sky. The changing colors were beautiful to watch. Both ears pricked forward as she watched the sky, waiting for the extra warmth of the sun to warm everything further. Glancing back at the other horses, she was small in comparison and also very plain compared to the others as well with a pale yellow coat. It was a very colorful herd, with a soft snort she glanced back towards the lead stallion. Soon she should be able to find out if she was allowed to actually stay or if she needed to move along.
Turning her eyes back towards the group she sought out the beta's dappled form. He was an odd duck. That poor guy was going to kill himself from stress and never know how to enjoy any part of life. With a soft nicker she tossed her head and pawed lightly at the grass. She really did feel sorry for him, never even taking a few moments of his day to relax or just act like a real horse, instead he was a workaholic. Turning her attention away from the herd she once more watched the sky, waiting to see what this day would bring. Either things would go okay or things would go badly, only time would tell.

It only took a bit of stirring from the others to pull Jasper from a dreamless slumber. Obsidian ears pivoting to collect the sounds around him, the Clydesdale revealed two chocolate eyes. He blinked them twice, adjusting to the light, before shaking out his knees from their locked position and taking a step forward, pausing only to shake out the dust from his mane. Eagerly did the stallion breathe in the scents. He had surprised himself by how much he enjoyed life in a herd these past three days. Exploring Lord Descaro's land had proven quite the enjoyable trip, no matter how suffocating the heat could be. Jasper very much enjoyed the company, though he had been holding back from really socializing with the others. Knowing him he'd start destroying everything before he even got settled and he did not want to compromise his place here quite yet. Blowing out a pleased snort from his lightly-colored nostrils, Jasper allowed his gaze to travel the Valley. He couldn't help but marvel at its sheer beauty--how such a place could be found surrounded by such desolate land he'd never know, but he'd be eternally grateful for it. Jasper had developed quite the affinity for water since his stay with Reyano, and the oasis and its surrounding greenery was most definitely his favorite destination yet. Plus, the rest of the herd was gathered here. Most of them, like he, were just beginning to awaken, not that he'd expected anything different. Right now, he could see Robin and the new mare, who he had yet to speak with formally but had overheard her name to be Mia, already awake. Making a mental note to get to know her later, Jasper's eyes swept over Descaro (who he skillfully avoided, considering he'd most likely try to pick a fight if he spoke with him). Almost magnetically, Jasper's eyes jerked back to the tall Nokota mare. Holding back a grin, he made his way towards her. Blowing out a small, pleasant snort as a greeting, Jasper stationed himself at her side so that their flanks were brushing. Knowing full well that the standoffish equine would most likely dislike the proximity--and the company--the Clydesdale stallion wordlessly lowered the mass of his head to the ground, ignoring the black hairs of his mane as they swung down to his eyes. It was incredibly difficult for Jasper not start chuckling as he grazed. Robin

She noticed quite quickly that the herd mentality within the surrounding equines was strong. Once she and Descaro had awoken, the pony as well as the giant had also stirred. Paying them no attention, the Nokota mare continued to graze on the grass coated in morning dew. It was sweet; a stark contrast to her personality, and the metaphor that she was sweet on the inside and bitter on the outside, well, it just wasn't true. She may as well have been born a damn donkey. A snort of greeting didn't bother her much, it seemed to be just the giant waking up as well, so she only flicked an ebony ear in his general direction. However, it seemed that the Clydesdale stallion had learned nothing over the three days of travelling that the band of horses had just endured, and he sidled right up beside her, causing their flanks to brush together. Robin's reaction was immediate. Her ears flew back, her neck snapped up, and the obviously irritated mare instinctively lashed out with bared teeth, nipping a large chunk of flesh near Jasper's withers. Just after, she stomped her front hooves away to the left and put most of her weight onto them, feinting a kick with both back legs towards the marbled stallion. That tweedle, thinking that she would just allow him to walk up beside her as if they were the best of friends. No, no he could not. Not until she had known him for more than a mere three days would she even allow the stallion within a five foot radius, especially considering his recent stunt. Snorting back at the idiotic stallion, she moved away, distancing herself from his stupidity. She positioned herself side-on with the seemingly gigantic colt, making sure that she could still give him the stink eye through the gaps in her mane as she resumed grazing. Now that she was in Reyano, she was bound by her own mental rules to protect those around her; but she wasn't sure that she could do that for a while for the young stallion. Flicking her inky tail in annoyance, she ripped the grass from the ground, consuming it without the semi-relaxed attitude she held before. Now, her body and mind were tense, and ready to strike out at the stallion with more force if he did something so stupid again soon. Jasper

Oh, this was good. With glimmering eyes did Jasper watch the other's spastic jerk, and the moment he spotted the fury smoldering in Robin's eyes his smile peeked daintily through pink lips. It was almost an apologetic smile. Almost. Surprisingly, Robin retaliated through violence and pinched the skin of his shoulder with ferocity (did the poor mare have some pent-up anger?) which was finally what made the stallion burst. Blowing out a large breath, he couldn't help the roar of laughter that was tugged from his lungs. Eyes crinkled and sides heaving with every hiccuping laugh, Jasper took a few cautious steps back just as Robin's hooves slashed at the air in front of him. In all honesty Jasper was tempted to return the favor, but judging by how negatively she'd reacted to something as harmless as their flanks touching, it was easy to guess how she'd respond to a friendly nip. Without a doubt would it happen someday, but not today. Not with Reyano needing some rest and not with Descaro hanging right there. Self-control was something that Jasper had to pretend he had right now. Still wheezing, Jasper shot the Nokota a flashy grin. " Do I really make you that nervous?" he managed through his snickering. He subsequently threw in a suggestive waggling of his invisible brows. It was clear that Robin was fuming, and the Clydesdale cocked his head playfully at her, ears perked in her direction. The heat of her glare was enough to melt snow, and the expression "if looks could kill" suddenly rang through the stallion's mind. If that were the case, Jasper would be as doomed as the grass she was currently tearing from the ground. Snorting out another round of laughter, he lowered his head where he stood, shooting her a wink before he began to calmly (well, anything was calm in comparison to a vexed Robin) chew at the ground. Very subtly, he'd take an occasional step towards her, pause, and then repeat until he was a respectful yet entertaining distance away. ooc; when you're trying to write "reyano" but it auto-corrects to oregano. .:Two Month Time Skip:.
Inky nostrils flared calmly in a rather peaceful sleep, the young mare curled up against a neat array of leaves and flowers she had collected over time. Though that night the air was warm but not uncomfortably hot, and Deziree found herself dreaming she was pressed up against her deceased mother. Thankfully these dreams were infrequent, as they often bothered her as she woke. It had been two whole months that she had left her mother's body and joined Reyano, yet the filly still found herself acting like a lost foal. She hadn't grown any more talkative since the day she met the herd, only offering speech where it was needed. In any spare time she had, which was a lot, Deziree chose to explore nearby the others, knowing that she would be chewed out otherwise by the "great and wonderful" Descaro for straying too far. It wasn't the best life, but she had simply grown to cope with it, motioning through boring daily routines and repetitive conversations.
Like always, some irritating noise got her attention, her spotted mother fading off quickly from her sight. Piercing brown eyes suddenly popped open, blinking angrily in the bright lights of morning. Once focused, her glaring hues would dart toward Jasper and Robin, the huge stallion up to no good as always and the normally mute female for whatever reason intimidated by him once again. With an annoyed huff, Deziree slowly rose out of her makeshift bed, long stiff legs aching. Shaking her frame slightly, she would watch as plants drifted easily to the ground. One last wearily glanced was casts toward the others before her long limbs would trot elsewhere, her head held high as always. Though she was still technically threatening Descaro's title, she assumed he knew she meant no harm. Here and there she would find a time and place to revert to her normal tendencies, unable to live without them. Deziree was neat and elegant, it was in her blood and taught to her by birth. Sometimes she stressed over the idea that the rest of her herd would laugh, but normally her arrogance left no room for these foolish idea's. They had to live with her as much as she had to live with them.
Slowing from her trot, the filly found herself musing over a patch of borage leaves, wondering if she would ever become a mother herself. Lately Deziree had taken an interest to different herbs that she head learned of in her birth herd. Of course, her knowledge was quite minimal, only really knowing about borage leaves due to her mother's own lack of milk. The mare found her mind wandering sometimes, finding it rather amusing that she may very well become a Shaman. That or a Warrior, but the fact that she wouldn't have young of her own distressed her. Then again Reyano was particuarly small in her mind, and unless she became soul mates with Boundless, she cringed, Deziree would never become so desperate as to bond with the three much older stallions. Speaking of which, she hadn't seen the awkward colt in a while. Perhaps he's sick, or too timid to show his face anymore, she would think with a half-hearted smirk.

The unabashed laughter that toppled from the lips of the colt just annoyed the painted mare even more. That brat, thinking that he could just whittle her down to her last nerve for his entertainment. ""Do I really make you that nervous?" the blubbering colt dared to taunt. Now she had to think about her response to the cocky stallion. She could easily retaliate with her regular, snappy tone, but this quarrel could go on for hours, and quite frankly, she didn't want to get kicked out of Reyano for killing the giant. It was clear that Jasper was never going to back down from this confrontation; he pretty much fed on the annoyance of others and the adrenaline it seemed to bring him. No, now the tactics of the loudly marked mare would change. Conserve energy, kick his flank some other time, hopefully after ranks were announced. "You know what Jasper?" Robin began, her voice closing up with fake sadness, "Maybe you do." Her eyes welling up with convincing fake tears, she glanced up into the eyes of the taller stallion momentarily after raising her head to just below her shoulders. Hopefully, her performance would guilt the young male to leave her alone in the future. Turning her bald face away from the marbled stallion, she moved away further into the trees, her gait a sloppy canter in order to keep up her facade, as well as get away from Jasper faster. Once she had moved away from the hopefully now guilty stallion, she gave her onyx and ivory coat a good shake, freeing herself mentally of her character. Rather than continue to graze once more, she faced her body toward Jasper, a smirk evident on her not saddened face. She hoped that he would look after her fleeing form, seeing her cat-fishing and react somehow. In the back of her mind, she hoped that Descaro had seen the first interaction, her feisty attitude, but not her second performance. Nothing would be more degrading to the painted mare to be classed as a damsel. She would rather be a Shaman with five cases of colic and with no experience than be stuck as a damn foal protector. That would be, unless she fooled the colt; she would be relatively proud of that. * "Fool," The sassy mare semi-called out to the young stallion if he had been fooled by her facade. Now it was her time to laugh, and she couldn't help but let a stuffled chuckle. She resisted the urge to laugh as loudly as she wanted too, considering that a few of her herdmates were still asleep. That facade brought her the most joy she had felt for many weeks. Flicking her tail to her sides, she watched the juvenile male, looking forward to his further reaction. * "Damn," Robin would mutter softly to herself if the boy hadn't been fooled. Now she had to step up her future game, as well as watch her back for Jasper's antics. She had no doubt that the Clydesdale stallion would retaliate somehow, sometime. And, she had also embarrassed herself in front of any horse or foal watching. Releasing one more annoyed snort towards Jasper, she would turn around and continue to graze while she waited for Descaro to get the day officially started. ( * are options) Jasper

To Jasper's utter enjoyment, Robin seemed to be only seconds away from spontaneously combusting. He could practically hear her seething thoughts and it just made the whole thing that much funnier. What he didn' t enjoy was the sudden change that overtook her. Tearing up, the surly Nokota met his gaze and Jasper's eyes widened with realization. Oh no. This is not good. A little horrified, he watched the mare as she turned around, fleeing a few good paces away. Naturally, the Clydesdale took a few paces forward, though he immediately rethought this and paused, brain mulling over his options. The arrogant side of him wanted to smirk and assume that he made her nervous because of his alluring charisma and immeasurable good looks, but the larger and more logical part of him was just guilty over the whole ordeal. He hadn't wanted to make her cry. Her devilish grin was swiftly registered as she twisted around. The stallion didn't even have time to feel confused before realization dawned on him. Nervous smile evaporating, a disgruntled expression replaced it. Her calling him a fool irked him, and his ears flicked with mild umbrage. Fortunately, his irritation did not last long. The moment her sides began to heave slightly, a clear indication of laughter, Jasper's head lifted up with surprise and a wide, goofy grin plastered itself on his pink muzzle. " Robin!" he exclaimed, " I didn't know you were capable of laughter!" Playfully squinting at her, the stallion puffed up triumphantly. " What a day this turned out to be, huh?" Looking in the general direction of his herd-mates, Jasper boisterously called out, " Did any of you know that she has a sense of humor?" His semi-calm tone was interrupted at the end by another bubbling round of laughter. Shaking his head joyfully, he moved away from Robin with a flick of his tail, muzzle lapping up at the grass. Okay, maybe Robin's little outburst had affected him a little. He'd stop bugging her... for now. No matter, he still eyed her good-naturedly. Robin

Oh, this was golden. Not only had the surly Nokota made him feel guilty, but she had also learned a valuable tidbit of information about the stallion. It seemed that Jasper did have a heart underneath all that thick-headedness. "How sweet," thought Robin sarcastically. She could use that to her advantage in the future. He was more of a fool that she thought. The expression on his face almost made her laugh harder; the confusion painted as clearly as her patches. "Robin! I didn't know you were capable of laughter! What a day this turned out to be, huh?" Jasper exclaimed, his voice booming over the Valley. Geez, could this kid get any louder? That question was soon answered when Jasper almost shattered her eardrums yelling, "Did any of you know that she has a sense of humor?" He could at least let everyone else around him still sleep! That bone head. "For God's sake, be quiet! Horses in their right mind are still trying to sleep!" Robin snorted at the colt, flicking her coarse ebony tail towards the sabino Clydesdale. Rolling her eyes one final time at Jasper, she shifted her weight as to spin on her hocks so that she could face away from the obnoxious stallion. Now everyone would most likely be awake because of Jasper's calling, so she might as well just grab a few quick bites of grass before Descaro came and talked to them. Jasper Lord Descaro
