Food: * A typical horse will eat 1- 3% of its body weight each day. * Horses eat grass, and their digestive tract is suited for constant grazing. Horses, when given an opportunity, will generally chose to graze, and spend most of their time moving around and grazing. * Horses generally spend 60% of their time grazing.
Water: * A typical horse will drink 5-10 gallons of water a day. Like humans, horses will get dehydrated quickly if they do not have water available.
Rest: * A typical horse will rest 30% of the time. * Adult horses do not lay down to sleep (their body weight will eventually crush them), but lock their legs and sleep and rest standing up.
