The Rolling Hills are between the Lonely Coast and the desert territories to the west. The landscape is green and lush here, with few trees. The land is perfect for wild horses, and the grass is always sweet. The Castovar River runs through the territory, providing fresh water for those who live here. To the north, the Anova Forest provides a clear territory boundary. Other animals such as coyotes, foxes, whitetail deer, and cottontail rabbits live in the area, and predators include wolves and the occasional bear. This territory is the safest for Lone Spirits, and harems will often come here when they have foals.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lone Spirits are welcome to wander here, as the land has not been claimed by a herd.
*Dangers: Wolves and Brown Bears*
When it comes to meeting a predator, the player can chose the outcome. Please keep in mind that lone horses will be vulnerable to predators, while groups will have a better chance of escaping unharmed. When a predator targets a harem of horses, they will seek to separate the weak and young. If your horse is young, old, or injured, be aware they will be likely to be targeted unless defended. Please keep all interactions with predators realistic. No horse can escape every encounter unharmed.

Strong legs took the beast forward as he climbed the biggest hill he could locate, his posture completely relaxed as he went. It was peaceful, so peaceful, and Nalu absolutely loved it. He had not encountered one horse since passing over the treacherous mountains and into this wide spread land of seemingly nothing but himself, predators and the usual animals seen daily. It had been a while since he had acquired such a peace of mind, at least, since he came into the land over two months ago. He had an incredibly basic and unfinished map in his head of the mountains, or at least the area's he passed, and the Anova Forest provided him with a bit of danger when he wanted to feel a rush and enlighten his day. There were two oddly smelling area's, though, one that he had smelled since wandering in the Arcano Mountains, and the other just a few days ago. The borders, as he assumed, smelled of horses, but not multiple scents that would create a strong aura, but only maybe two or three that gave out the indication that there was something there, not necessarily that there was an army.
Nalu had pondered over this for hours, imagining a huge leader such as himself strutting around in a deserted territory as if he could hardly defend it all. The stallion would never in his life be interested in joining a herd, the thought of many surrounding him being a complete set off. He would never be happy again when his peace was always interrupted by playful foals or work that had to be done. Here, if he wanted to ward off strangers he could do so, if he wanted to eat he had the opportunity whenever he pleased, and if he wanted to "run away", well he had miles upon miles of space.
In his time wandering, through, Nalu had considered finding company at least twice, only normally when he became incredibly bored and didn't find excitement in his daily thrills. Besides these assumable herds around, the area was desolated, and he couldn't really talk to the other animals unless he wanted to be deemed insane. Today was one of those days where he was feeling particuarly lonely, only for now, and so he climbed a hill so that he could distract himself and admire the scenery. Once at the top, the stallion observed for a while before slowly and steadily bending down, lowering his body to the ground until he lay there with a sudden "umph", his hind legs neatly splayed out next to each other. It wasn't soon after that Nalu began to feel the pressure on his large chest, but until it really bothered him he ignored it. The calm stallion simply stared, a gentle breeze only disturbing the black hair over his eyes slightly.

Rhona's slender legs took long, graceful strides, grateful to finally have arrived here after days of traveling. Soft, green grass crimped beneath her hooves, and she could already imagine the sweetness they must hold. These hills had great grazing, a river, and it was safe. Craving a rest from her adventures, she had sought out such a place as this, one that included a steady food and water source with fewer dangers. Here, not only did it abide to that rubric, it was easier on the eyes than some of the lands she had passed through. Rhona could only detect one other horse here, a stallion. Deeming it unnecessary to seek out more information about this horse, Rhona continued on with walking. Light hooves made the lightest of patting sounds against the grass as she started to trot towards the Castovar River. When it finally flowed beneath her hooves, she let out a gentle nicker of relief. This water was the cleanest she had encountered since she left her old herd. Slowly, she bent her long neck down and took some slow, long sips from the water, her black tail swaying and flicking gently. Not only did she want to savor the fresh, cool taste, she wanted to savor the moment. When she was satisfied, she drank a couple more gulps then walked a few steps over to graze on some grass. Oh, how different it was to only have to walk a few steps from a water source to a food source. She was full soon, but continued eating anyways. This luxury had not presented itself to her in weeks, and Rhona knew she would be staying here to enjoy this lap of luxury for a while. Finally satisfied, she raised her head, the sun shining into her black eyes, making them look opaque and almost haunted. It beat down with the gentleness of a mare playfully nipping her foal, making her coat seem slightly yellow. Taking a deep breath and letting it out with a nicker, she lifted her head and walked on, deciding to find a place she could rest at for the night. The next day, she would take the very small adventure of finding another place to sleep. Mentioned: Nalu

The large stallion layed there for about thirty minutes before finally standing once again, the pressure on his chest becoming uncomfortable. It was then, as he stood to his full height, that the nearby hills would shrink just slightly, and the differentiating coloration of another would show. In the sunlight they looked yellow tinted, although since the small breeze was flowing away from him he could not detect a gender. Nevertheless, his interest had been aroused by this new horse, and so he would begin a brisk trot down the hill. Nalu's mane drifted easily in the wind, his heavy hooves beating on the ground as he navigated around hills and through tall grass. Before getting too close, though, he would toss his head in the air and let out a deep whinny, notifying the mare, as he could now scent, that he was there. In little to no time it seemed, the mares figure would appear around a hill, acquiring the same shiny tinted pelt and dark mane he had spotted earlier. As he slowed upon approach his shifted mane would again settle, dark strands of hair shading over one of his eyes. The stallion stopped a comfortable distance away, his cranium lowered slightly as to not seem hostile. Although he didn't mean to rudely stare, it was only in his nature to observe first before taking action. As his dark eyes grazed over her slender figure, he would note off the bat that she was younger than him, and obviously shorter. Her aura seemed pleasant, metaphorically speaking, as she didn't seem to be fairly docile and collected like himself. His hues wound then stray toward her eyes, and suddenly his own grew wide with guilt, noticing that he hadn't greeted her. Nalu bowed his head deeply, as if he were in the presence of a god. " Forgive me, I am Nalu, and you are?" he would politely enquire in his baritone voice, offering only the tiniest smile. OOC: This post is meh xD But I got it up finally. Rhona

The presence of the unfamiliar horse from before made its way towards her in the pace of a quick trot. As they came closer, she realized that, for the distance they remained, the hooves made such loud and heavy sounds. This stallion was be large in size and heavy in weight, and Rhona detected he was a Percheron. That definitely explained his size. His pelt was a peculiar mottling of neutral tones, gray and black and white. Stilling, Rhona raised her eyes to observe the stallion as he approached, growing larger and larger. Now she could tell, even as he did not stand next to her, that he was more than a foot taller than her, and probably about twice her weight. Eyes, dark grey in coloration, and barely visible underneath his hair, seemed to examine her a bit. The stallion bowed his head, and Rhona was flattered. Only a couple weeks away from the herd and such polite, formal customs had become less familiar to her. The motion of his head lowering caused his long, dark hair to fall, random strands sprawling and stretching down his neck and forehead like the strands of a thick spiderweb. He smelled distinct, not intermingled, not with the scents of others clinging to him. “Forgive me, I am Nalu, and you are?” he asked. His voice was low and his tone polite, the smallest of smiles making an appearance upon his muzzle. He did not introduce himself as part of a harem, nor a herd. Like his scent, Rhona used this to assume he was, indeed, alone. “My name is Rhona,” she says, returning the polite tone and also returning the small smile. Bowing her head, she kept it low for a little while, before bringing it up high, though it didn’t do much good to make her seem taller compared to the stallion. “What brings you here?” she continues the conversation, ears rotating forward and tail issuing a flick, allowing the thick hairs to swing for a bit before settling. Nalu OOC: your post was not meh! Haha. Sorry this one's shorter than I hoped it to be... I have some schoolwork to attend to

Even as he had approached the mare kept her eyes curiously on him, stracing his every movement. Did she think he was a danger to him? Well, her face didn't quite show that, but she was obviously thinking about something Nalu would never ask. The polite mare introduced herself as Rhona, a rather elegant name to him, and bowed her head in return. " Oh you didn't.." Nalu's voice cut off quietly, ears narrowing back slightly. Was it right for a mare to bow toward a stallion? The male pondered over this for a quick moment before Rhona began speaking again, obviously in attempt to continue a steady conversation. Average and basic it was, though. " What brings you here?" she asked, flicking her dark tail calmly. What a peculiar question to ask, of all her options. " Well, I saw you in the distance and I was curious to find a new face in the month i've lived around here. Simple as that," he would say, his expression again serious but relaxed as he glanced up at the sky. The sun sat slightly above the horizon, not yet casting it beautiful array of lights. Nalu again looked toward Rhona, curious as to where she intended on staying for the night. It was then that a wolf's howl echoed into the air, a lovely sound yet terrifying to any horse. As such, the stallion tensed slightly, jerking his head toward the sound before confirming that it was not near. " I would suggest that you head that way," Nalu gestured with his snout toward the direction he had came from. " when you decide to settle for tonight, and not near the river, or on the top of a hill." The stallion began directing his body towards the area he had come from, approaching Rhona a bit more as if he were about to escort her there. " Keep your guard up. These hills are far from peaceful at night." he would say more quietly, his mind trailing back to the night before, different sounds spooking him throughout the night. It wasn't like he didn't get sleep, but he had to keep attention focused most of the night. Nalu glanced toward Rhona through his strands of hair, expecting for her to go or ask to join him, really the only two options he could think of. Rhona

Nevara picked up a gallop as she came up the sides of the beach and up onto the grass. Her hooves thundered across the grass, and the mare gave a few high-spirited bucks just because she could. When she had reached a particularly green area of new grass, close to a nearby pond, she stopped and turned her neck to look for Caspian. She then dropped her head to the ground, without a word, and began to tear mouthfuls of the grass off. The spring shoots were still short, so she had to keep moving almost constantly to keep eating fresh grass, but Nevara could've cared less. She lifted her head a few times, scanning for predators, and gazing curiously at Caspian. He was a strange stallion, more than a little rude, but Nevara had dealt with much more from her own colts before. All in all, he seemed like a good stallion. She wasn't worried about him attacking her, and on the contrary was trusting him to keep an eye out for predators as she grazed. With some work and a few good doses of respect, he would make a fine young stallion. Caspian

As he had almost started to protest, Rhona was confused, and her brow furrowed slightly. Had he not expected her to bow her head back? Why not? "Well, I saw you in the distance and I was curious to find a new face in the month I've lived around here. Simple as that." Simple indeed. Rhona kept her calm, dark gaze level upon him as he glanced up at the sky, not doing so herself. The stallion turned back to look at her, as a wolf's howl rang through the air. Rhona craned her neck to look in the direction of the sound and shifted her hooves a bit, the sound not comforting to her. She was not big, nor muscular, nor strong. The most she might be able to do to a wolf is offer a kick or run. Either one could still end bad for her, and she had never encountered an… enemy. Only when she had been in a herd, and then, there were guardians to keep everyone safe. "I would suggest that you head that way when you decide to settle for tonight, and not near the river, or on the top of a hill," his body began to shift towards where he had pointed his snout, and he approached her slightly. Rhona felt so small next to him, like he could simply pick up a hoof and step over her. "Keep your guard up. These hills are far from peaceful at night." She wanted to shiver or shudder, but didn't trust or know him quite enough to show such a physical display of emotion. She could just imagine staying awake at night, listening to the howls of wolves get closer and closer, wondering if they were going to venture right up to her sleeping spot. Nalu looked at her through his thick hair, perhaps waiting for her. She took a slight step closer to him, hoping she wasn't intruding when she said: "I hope you don't mind if I join you, then," she said, hoping this wasn't terribly inappropriate for strangers. Or, as she may now call themselves now that they knew each others' names, acquaintances. It would be much safer for there to be someone else with her if these hills really did crawl with dangers, and it could be safer for him, as well. Nalu

His hooves digging into the hill, Caspian shoved his frame into a gallop up the hill. His breath coming out his short huffs as he powered his way up the hill, a short squeal erupted from the stallion as he dodged out of the way of Nevara's flying hooves. Slowing his gait to follow alongside Nevara, he snorted to her, letting her know that he was following close behind her. While Nevara began grazing, Caspian swiveled his oddly-shaped ears on the top of his head, scanning the nearby area for predators before dipping his head down nearby Nevara. The early shoots were short, but sweet, so he continued to move around, occasionally finding patches of grass that had already been mowed down by Nevara. Once, when he raised his elegant head up to search the hills for threats, he caught Nevara's curious gaze on him. Snorting towards her, he turned his back away, flicking his ebony tail in her direction. How dare she judge his ears. It's always the ears. Rolling his eyes to himself, he continued grazing on the spring grass. She was an odd old lady, but provided good enough company, he decided. She was slightly rude, but then again, who isn't? As he flicked his grazing gaze over to her, he moved closer before lifting his head up as high as it could go. "I'm taller," He murmured from above her. It was mainly just to literally size up his acquaintance, but it brought him a small bit of cocky joy that he was a few inched taller than Nevara.

The dappled stallion locked eyes with her and lifted his head high. "I'm taller," he said quietly, and the mare almost rolled her eyes. She looked up at him with amused exasperation, and shook her mane out. "So you are," she said simply. Her hooves moved back a step, a quick dance-like movement, and then she reared slightly, lifting her front feet up just enough so that she was taller than Caspian. Her eyes flashed with a silent, playful challenge, and then she hit the ground lightly, springing away with a foal-like aura. Her head went down and she bucked, moving faster away from the stallion. She then circled back around tightly, her gait short and choppy. She came to a halt near Caspian's left shoulder, throwing her head up and rearing again. The grullo equine skittered away from him, inviting a chase. Her energy wouldn't last very long, but she was excited in the moment. If Caspian didn't take the invitation, she would just go back to grazing. The short burst of movement had almost wore her out, and she was getting ready to settle down and continue grazing. She had just enough energy for one more burst of speed, if Caspian chose accept the invitation to chase her. Caspian

While his head was high above Nevara's the dappled stallion grinned as she plainly stated, "So you are." What he wasn't expecting was for the old lady to take a step back and rear up, making herself just a few inches taller than himself. His eyes glinting with a challenge that matched her own, he took a stride forwards as she danced away giving a playful buck. He planted his hooves, allowing the older mare to come back around to his shoulder before she skittered away from him once more. Caspian took the invitation and pushed himself into gear after the grullo mare, chasing her around the hill for a short distance before it became evident that she was getting tired. He couldn't blame her, it made sense that an older mare would get tired faster that a young stallion, so he nipped her flank slightly as he ran past her, wanting to get the jitters out of his system without her having to keep running. Taking a few galloping strides past her grullo form, Caspian threw his weight forwards, giving a series of bucks and kicks to the air as he trampled the grass. Finishing his play with a satisfying landing of his hooves in the grass, he snorted, the sweat that now slightly saturated his pelt cooling him off in the slightly breeze. His breaths were short, but powerful as he restored oxygen to his body and made his way back over to where Nevara was presumably grazing. The now satisfied stallion dropped his head down to the grass, tearing at the sweet spring shoots once more, glancing occasionally at Nevara to see her reaction to everything. Nevara OOC: If you feel I ghosted her too much, please let me know and I'll change it!

The black dun mare stopped with a snort, her nostrils flaring and her heart thumping. She had lost weight over the winter, and her shaggy coat hadn't shed into her sleek summer one yet. Feeling out of shape, weak, and over-heated, the mare stopped the game and stood to catch her breath. It was nice to pretend to be younger, but it never worked. Caspian circled back and began grazing, his strong heart adjusting to the exertion without trouble. The older mare walked around in circles a bit, snorting loudly. Once she had regained some of her breath, she returned to grazing next to Caspian. After a little bit she locked her knees and just stood there, dozing in the sun. --Time Jump to Summer-- Nevara struggled to her feet with a sigh, her eyes roaming the land for any danger. It was dangerous, she knew, but she had needed to lie down, at least for a little bit. Her winter coat was shedding in huge clumps, and when she looked down at the spot she had been resting in, it was lined with dark brown hairs. Nevara blew a breath out of her nose gently, flicking her ears back and forth lazily. Caspian OOC: Didn't know if you wanted Caspian to hang around through the time jump or not, you can stick him into the new scene if you want but you don't have to Also, sorry it's rather short, I've been super busy lately

-Time jump to Summer- The sleek dapple coat that Caspian wore with pride shone in the early morning light. It was still relatively cool, which the grey stallion relished in, as with the hot season upon the lands, each bit of shade, breeze, and cool weather was a gift. A shifting of the grass caught his attention, and he flicked his dark tail as he turned towards the rising form of Nevara. He had kept a close eye on the mare while she was on the ground, as at his young age, he felt the pressure on his chest and lungs, but was able to get up quickly and efficiently. Nevara, with her increasing age, was more likely struggle with standing up, and could get trapped on the ground. Over the season, he had grown to enjoy Nevara's company, and being a hot headed stallion, he was going to protect his friend through her old age. "Morning," he nickered to the grullo mare. The dew that squeaked beneath his hooves was refreshing, and in the morning light, and he was going to relish in the water. "Care for a walk?" The stallion proposed. It would be good to find a new place to graze, as well as just to stretch out some old creaky bones. He snorted at his own thoughts as he began to walk a few steps away, before pausing to see whether of not Old Bones was going to join him. And intense gaze watched the mature mare's movements, calculating whether or not he should turn back and just keep her company. Nevara

The dark dun mare glanced gratefully at Caspian as the young stallion turned to face her, the nonverbal thank-you that the proud mare would not say aloud. He had been keeping watch over her as she rested, and the mare truly was exceedingly grateful. The past few months, Nevara had come to rely on Caspian more than she would like to admit. While her spirit was still young, the mare was humble enough to realize that she needed a little help sometimes, not that she would ever admit that to Caspian. The stallion, with a little reprimanding, had turned out to be a fine young gentlemen, though he still got on her nerves quite a bit. Capsian approached Nevara through the morning light. "Morning," he said simply, and the mare nodded in return. "Care for a walk?" Capsian offered, his voice careful and overly-considerate, at least in Nevara's opinion. She rolled her eyes, but he turned away and didn't notice. After a second she heard a muffled snort come from the younger equine, and she let out an indignant snort of her own. Pinning her ears, she came up behind him and gave his left hip a sharp nip. Perhaps it was a bit of an over-reaction, but the proud mare didn't appreciate being treated as if she was on her death-bed. Nevara turned away with a haughty toss of her head, calling over her shoulder, "I would, actually. But just so you know, I'm not dying. You can't get rid of me that easy." She turned her head slightly, a stubborn, proud glint in her dark brown eyes. Yes, she might be a little on the elderly side, but she was still young at heart. With another snort, she picked up a trot, lifting her chin and purposefully ignoring Caspian. She was the one in charge around here, thank you very much. He said walk, she said trot. No stallion would be bossing her around anytime soon. Caspian

The snort of response that he received from the grullo mare entertained him, but the sharp pain that erupted from his left hip had him dancing away with his ears pinned back. She bit him! That sneaky old lady! Keeping his oddly shaped ears pinned back, he stuck his tongue out at the turned form of Nevara, the pain on his hip quickly subsiding, but the hot-headed stallion needed to retaliate somehow. "I would, actually. But just so you know, I'm not dying. You can't get rid of me that easy," the stubborn mare called over her shoulder. That mare was almost as annoying as he perceived himself. Pushing herself into a trot away from the dappled stallion. Once again, he was proving his mental point of the mare being defiant. Throwing his legs forwards, he extended his own body into a lengthy trot, catching up to the old lady easily. He moved in front of her, flicking his ebony tail into her nasals as he raced ahead. Up ahead the river cut through the landscape, and Caspian decided that down by the waterside would be the perfect place to end a morning walk. While he waited for his older companion to catch up, he looked over the terrain, scanning for predators. Once she caught up, he would accompany her down to the water's edge. At the water's edge, he dipped his majestic head downwards, taking a few large gulps of water before looking to Nevara. The sun was beginning to rise higher, and the heat was starting to climb, and with the lack of shade giving trees, it would do both horses good to stay down by the riverside. Turning to the grullo mare, he just enjoyed the comfortable silence, surprisingly not having anything to say. Nevara
